Common questions about working with Maddog, our methods, and what to expect.
Maddog offers professional dog behaviourist services in Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham, Carnforth, Garstang, Caton, Halton, Bolton-le-Sands and within 10 miles of Lancaster. If you're outside this area, get in touch to check availability.
Our first session is about getting the full picture. We'll cover your dog's background, routine, and environment; when the behaviour started and what it looks like day-to-day; triggers, patterns, and emotional drivers (fear, frustration, stress); and your goals. I'll also observe your dog's body language, stress signals, and coping strategies.
Yes. After the consultation, you'll receive a tailored behaviour plan built specifically for your dog and your household. This includes an explanation of why the behaviour is happening, immediate management strategies to reduce stress, step-by-step training exercises, environmental tweaks, and honest, realistic expectations.
I use modern, ethical, science-led methods that prioritise welfare and emotional safety. That means no punishment, no dominance, and no "quick fixes" that ignore how your dog feels. We focus on why the behaviour is happening, what your dog needs to feel safe and supported, and practical changes that fit your lifestyle. I never use aversive tools (shock, prong, choke collars) or push dogs beyond their emotional limits.
Sessions are one-to-one with you and your dog, but other family members are welcome to join when it's helpful — so everyone who lives with the dog can be on the same page. We can tailor who attends depending on your setup and goals.
I work with dogs of all ages: puppies needing early socialisation, and adult or senior dogs with anxiety, aggression, reactivity, fear, or frustration. I also support owners who feel overwhelmed or worried they're "doing it wrong," and anyone who wants ethical, welfare-first behaviour support.
Yes. Maddog support includes follow-up sessions, check-ins between appointments, and adjustments as your dog progresses or circumstances change. Progress isn't linear, so having someone to guide you through the journey is part of the service.
